New film presents a twist to mother-daughter relations

Although it premiered around Valentine’s Day, Because I Said So really should have come out around Mother’s Day.
Instead of being the typical girlie date film, the movie is more about mother/daughter relationships, and how most women should appreciate that their mothers have yet to set them up with men through an Internet dating service.
Diane Keaton plays the overbearing love-you-till-it-hurts Daphne Wilder, a divorced mother to three daughters: Mae, Maggie, and Milly.

Milly, played by Mandy Moore, is constantly jumping from guy to guy, making her family crazy. After another failed relationship, Daphne creates her embarrassing, yet well-intended, plan of picking out her daughter’s next man herself with the help of an Internet dating site.
This is where your own mother starts to look normal.
After a variety of failed prospects, Daphne finds her ideal man for her daughter, just as Milly finds her own dream date.
In order to appease her mother, who will not take no for an answer, Milly dates both men and finds herself caught between two choices-the man she thinks she loves or the man her mother loves for her.
The situation causes Milly to realize that she cannot please her mother all the time.
This also serves as a wake-up call for Daphne to discover her own possible love (and stay out of her daughters).
Daphne has habit of meddling in each of her daughters lives in order to distract from her own lack of a mate. The dynamic and often explosive relationship between the daughters and the mother is at the forefront of the movie, rather than only showcasing Milly’s new suitors.
Although the inevitably cute ending will make you happy for Milly, Because I Said So should make you thankful that no matter how crazy your mother is, she could be much worse.
