Seton Hill Pipe Band brings old traditions into a new locale, era

New and exciting music is at Seton Hill University (SHU). Formerly the Allegheny and District Pipe Band, the Seton Hill Pipe Band was acquired as of August 2007. The band is comprised of 27 members who have been competing since 1993. The pipe band also has seven new members being mentored by pre-existing members.
The pipe band had a great introduction to their start of the fall season with the celebration of Elizabeth Ann Seton, the patron saint of SHU. The SHU Pipe Band performed at the event, which was hosted in downtown Greensburg to celebrate the start of the SHU Center for the Performing Arts.
“I think that having a pipe band at SHU will bring more diversity to the campus,” said Erin Waite, a sophomore.

“I think that having a pipe band at SHU will bring more diversity to the campus,” said Erin Waite, a sophomore.
Performing regionally and on a national circuit, the band has more gigs in the future on campus, including Homecoming weekend in October 2007.
“The SHU Pipe Band is an interesting addition to both the SHU and Greensburg communities. The group is just another example of the continuous growth of the arts in Greensburg,” said Juistina Chiappelli, a sophomore.
Plans for an upcoming CD and DVD are in the works for the new addition to SHU, which will show live performances from past concerts. The uniform for the pipe band is also in the works of changing to the official Seton tartan.
The SHU Pipe Band has been competing for 13 years at difficult levels. They have gone from winning small contests to excelling on larger scales. New beginnings are what SHU strives to bring to students.
“I don’t know much about this band yet, but it seems like a very interesting thing to have at SHU” said Chris Dufalla, a freshman.
