Oh, Ryan Reynolds. With the newest chick flick, “Definitely, Maybe,” out in theaters, girls across the nation are sure to either fall in love with Reynolds, or remember why they fell in love with him in the first place.
Reynolds, who plays main character, Will Hayes, a 30-something New Yorker who is picking up his daughter Maya, played by Abigail Breslin, from school. He finds out that the children had received a “special talk” which they are much too young for. The talk prompted Maya to ask how her own parents, who are now going through a divorce, fell in love in the first place.

Will starts the story with how he came to New York in 1992, when he was asked to work for the first Clinton campaign. For a twist, Will changes the names of all the people in his story, so his daughter has to guess which woman her mother is. This little trick also keeps the audience guessing throughout the story.

As Maya, and the audience, attempt to discover who her mother is, the choices are narrowed down to: Emily (Elizabeth Banks) Will’s college sweetheart, April (Isla Fisher) the apolitical best friend and confidante or Summer (Rachel Weisz) the ambitious and talented journalist.

Each woman has her bad qualities; Emily tells Will that they are not right for each other while he is still in love, April is Will’s complete opposite and falls in love with other guys very easily, and Summer is still in love with a former, and much older fling. Though all of them are not perfect, they each have one good quality in common, any of them would make an amazing mother for Maya.

Though Will tries to keep some things a secret, Maya soon realizes that her father was once a very idealistic young man who did not always do the right thing. She also discovers that he learned the hard way how to make it in the political world, and also how he juggled three women at the same time.

Each actor’s performance is incredible. The sarcastic comedy is priceless and the energy never dies throughout the entire film. Reynolds and Fisher show that they are more than just the comedic roles they have previously been cast in and Breslin is a very promising actress for her young age.

“Definitely, Maybe” is sure to bring out a variety of emotions in audiences. From choosing whom you feel Will should be with, you’ll find anger, from the critical view each person gives to another, you’ll find laughter.

And through the simple telling of a love story from father to daughter, you’ll also need some tissues, because as Maya, the cute and quirky 10 year-old finds out, love is not always simple. Audiences will also discover that there is definitely time to fix your past and that, maybe, in doing so, you’ll find your happy ending.
