Renovating St. Joseph’s Chapel

Seton Hill University’s beloved St. Joseph Chapel is now new and improved by all of the renovations that have been made over the past few weeks. This was all decided sometime last fall.

“It was in dire need of it. The pews were falling apart and there were cracks that needed to be filled. Nothing had been done to it in years,” said Cindy Boland of Campus Ministry.

A grant was received to cover the painting of the chapel, refurbishing of the pews, floors and vestibule areas.

“We planned on doing the painting years ago, but needed to repair one of the rose windows that was cracking, so the money was spent to do that urgent job,” said Lois Sculco of Campus Ministry.

There will also be repairs done on the windows in the Maura entrance way to the chapel. “The space in the chapel has worked out quite well as it suits the size of our congregation better,” said Stephen Honeygosky, chaplain and assistant professor of English.

This is very exciting to many people, especially since the chapel is such an important part of the school and means a lot to everyone. There is a lot of history in St. Joseph’s Chapel.

“It’s central to our identity. It kind of represents the heart of the University,” said Boland.

“Everyone seems very pleased about the renovations of the chapel, especially the Sisters of Charity and the administration who have been hoping that there would be funds received in order to do so,” said Sculco.

According to Sculco, the hope is that the chapel will be open and ready for the Baccalaureate Mass for this year’s graduating senior class.
