SHGA President’s Corner September 2009

Hello All Setonians,

On behalf of the Seton Hill Government Association (SHGA) executive board, I would like to thank all thirty-five of the clubs and organizations that participated in this year’s club fair. We appreciated everyone’s support and flexibility in the last minute switch to Cecilian Hall due to a rainy forecast. Even after the location change, the attendance was exciting and we could not have hoped for a more successful event.

The table decorations, free treats and all other creative ideas used were great to see. Every year we award the club or organization with the best overall table; from eye-catching props, to enthusiastic members, to providing helpful information. This year the decision was challenging but two clubs’ tables were all around the total package. The Students in the Arts (SITA) Club and the Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) both wrangled in the majority agreement from staff and faculty split the prize money of $50 to go towards future club endeavors.

Another event, which was a first time treat, was the Luau Party hosted by SHU-A-THON on Sept. 11. Thanks to the great financial support of the Student-Bodies Activities Council (SAC), SHU-A-THON was able to throw the event and used the selling of $1 mocktails to raise money for their continuing efforts for the Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh.

This was just the first of three club events that will be taking place this semester. The Family and Consumer Sciences club will be holding an event on Oct. 16, and the Chemistry club will be hosting their event on Nov.7, so keep a look out for these happenings.

Finally, I would like to encourage everyone to participate and enjoy this weekend’s Homecoming and Family Weekend. Many great things have been planned so have a great time. SHGA will be hosting our annual King and Queen of the Hill contest on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. in Cecilian Hall. Come show support to all your talented classmates and see who can charm the judges!

Also, our second annual Griffin Regatta is at 1 p.m. on Sept. 27 in Sullivan Pool. Contestants will be racing boats that they themselves have constructed, the catch bening that they could only use cardboard and duck tape! Come and see who will win the Titanic Award this year!

As always, SHGA welcomes all questions, comments, concerns or ideas. Send us an email to shga@setonhill.edu or drop a note in our suggestion box located in Lowe 113.
Have a great weekend!
