Welcome back Setonians

I am sure that you have been welcomed back many, many times already, but I would like to also welcome you back to the Hill. I hope that you enjoyed the past six weeks away from classes, deadlines, and stress and are ready to start back. On behalf of the Student Government Executive Board (SHGA), I would like to announce some news on an open officer position, dates for our Club Events and Senate Meetings. I will also be introducing a drive that will benefit the foreign ministry of the Sisters of Charity at Caritas Christi.

SHGA President

To my fellow Setonians,
I am sure that you have been welcomed back many, many times already, but I would like to also welcome you back to the Hill.

The previous Campus Life Resolution Board Member (CLRBM) for the Class of 2013 transferred and now the position is open. The week of February 1st will be an opportunity for students of the Class of 2013 to self-nominate themselves for CLRBM. If you are interested in the position, please send a letter of intent to shga@setonhill.edu. This letter should just explain why you would like to hold the position and why you believe you are the best candidate for the position.

In addition, SHGA selected the dates for our spring SHGA Club Events. After submitting event idea forms to our Student-Body Activities Council (SAC), clubs were then selected to hold an event during this semester. Respect Life Club will be hosting their event on Friday, Feb. 12; the SHU Equestrian Team will host an event on Saturday, Mar. 27; the SHU-A-THON Dance Marathon will be held on Friday, Apr. 9; the Gay Straight Alliance was chosen to hold an event on Saturday, Apr. 17; and our Biology Club will be hosting the final Club Event on Friday, Apr. 30.

SHGA Senate meetings this semester will be held on the following Thursdays at 4 p.m. in A308. As always, everyone is invited to join us and all clubs should be sending their Senate Representative (Rep). The Senate Rep. is responsible for disseminating new information to their club. The dates are Feb. 4, Feb. 18, Mar. 4, Mar. 18, Apr. 8, Apr. 22, and May 6. Remember: if your club has a representative at each meeting, you will be able to receive financial support from SHGA.

I would also like to announce a drive that SHGA will be starting this semester to support the foreign ministry of the Sisters of Charity at Caritas Christi. We will be aiding the Sisters in their collection of cancelled stamps. This includes all postage stamps (traditional, seasonal, foreign or commemorative) that you have received on any mail items. Just leave about .25 of an inches or more around the stamps and drop them off in the envelope outside of the SHGA Office in Lowe 113. The stamps are then sent to a dealer who then sells the stamps to collectors. The funds generated by the stamps are put towards the foreign ministry actions of the Sisters of Charity.

As always, send all questions, comments, concerns or ideas to shga@setonhill.edu, or drop a note in our suggestion box located outside our office in Lowe 113. I look forward to working with everyone this semester and best of luck.
