Lois Sculco and  Joanne, Vice President for Mission and Student Life and President Joanne Boyle hosted their 10 annual “Lunch with Liz” event in Cecilian Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 11:30 a.m. to 12:20 p.m. Seton Hill students packed into Cecilian Hall and to hear about the legacy of Elizabeth Ann Seton.

Lois Sculco says that something new and interesting is attempted each year. This year, JoAnne Boyle and Sculco conducted with Sculco acting as Elizabeth Seton. Boyle told her about happenings at Seton Hill recently:

“We have done panels, videos, plays,” said Sculco, “the last couple of years, we have honored student who have Sister of Charity scholarships bearing the name of Sister Pioneers.”

M. DeChantal Lies and Miriam Joseph were honored with a slide show and students who received the Dechantal Lies and Joseph scholarships were also honored.

Each year usually involves a similar activity that has all the attendees participate.

Sculco encourages students to attend this event to honor the founder of the Sisters of Charity and SHU.

“We will continue to encourage students to attend by marketing the program, communicating its focus, sending invitations to groups to be honored, and of course the lunch and the door prize and favors help,” said Sculco.

Along with scholarship winners and athletes, dance majors performed and were recognized. Dance is the newest major to Seton Hill and dance majors put on a performance.

The picture of Elizabeth Seton and her son at the Performing Arts Center was also honored.

The attending students were asked to write about how they would further the spirit of Elizabeth Seton at Seton Hill, and here are some of their responses:

“I will collaborate with the SHU community to advance the mission of this special place and strive to emulate the spirit of EAS.”
“I will continue to learn all I can of the world, to better myself and others.”

“Embrace change, stay progressive, ‘Hazard yet forward’”

“Follow in the footsteps of education and study to be a teacher”

“I will represent myself and this university with high values and respect for all people.”

“Help those in need to the best of my ability.”
