Observe | Sister Maureen O'Brien, director of Campus Ministry joins a few students for some a "Coffee with Chirst," an event held on campus during Week with Christ.

Seton Hill University’s (SHU) student organized “Week with Christ” started this Mon., Sept. 19, with a tented “Coffee with Christ” discussion on McKenna Lawn as it rained. The participants in the coffee talk were not discouraged by the poor weather as they explored the meanings of various Bible quotes.

Victoria Lombardo, SHU student, was very excited about the turn out of the event. “It was more than a success! I couldn’t have asked for anything better.  It was apparent that God’s presence was with us. We actually had to add more chairs twice to accommodate the number of students.”

The students, faculty and guests shared thoughts and personal stories in reaction to Bible excerpts Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” and James 1:2, “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds.”

The messages of these two passages are important for all to remember. Lombardo shares the group’s interpretation of the texts when she said, “We discussed how none of us are perfect—we are all sinners. We also discussed…how trials bring us closer to God because we know we can’t get through it alone.”

On Tuesday night the “Week with Christ” continued with a contemporary worship led by The Way, a local church ministry team in Latrobe. Their music swept across the campus as many students gathered outside McKenna to join in prayer and praise Jesus Christ.

Wednesday night the students organized “Bibles by the Bonfire.” They shared in a short bible study while enjoying the warmth of the fire accompanied with food and the occasional playing of an acoustic guitar.

Many members of the SHU community have probably noticed that students have been passing things out from a booth at Maura Solarium about this week’s events. The last “Week with Christ” event will be having Pastor Mike Stahl, head pastor of Victorious Life Church, make a guest appearance on the Hill tonight! Make sure you take part in this final blast of praise!

Lombardo says that this whole week is “for the glory of God. Not to sound cliché, but without Him, there is no way this would have come together so perfectly.”
