Night on Haunted Hill changes leadership

Night on Haunted Hill, an annual event at Seton Hill University (SHU), experienced a change in hosts this year. The Hockey Club will be hosting the event on Oct. 28 and 29 from 7-9 p.m. for students and community members.

After the disbandment of the Make-A-Wish Club, several Hockey Club members voted to host the event to benefit the Mario Lemieux Foundation, started in 1993 by Mario Lemieux, co-owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins.

“The members of the club are excited to have the opportunity to host one of SHU’s annual traditions within the Greensburg community,” said Chris Bruce the Hockey Club secretary and a SHU senior. “I think it’s the fact that this is a community event that makes this most exciting,”

A charge of $3 for participants buys a tickets to visit table activities planned by various SHU clubs including: Eye Contact (SHU’s literary magazine), Project H.O.P.E., Dance Club, Red Cross, Music Therapy, Forensic Science Club and Rotaract Club. Coming to the event in costume earns each person a $1 discount.

This year’s haunted house will be based around R.L. Stine’s book series: “Goosebumps”.  Friday night will also feature a hayride.

“[The students’] enthusiasm and ideas will lead this to hopefully being a balance of fun and [fright] at the annual event,” said professor and club advisor, Robert Zullo. “I know they are diligently researching good ideas to borrow from other successful hauntings while also maintaining the family atmosphere that Seton Hill provides.”

According to Hockey Club treasurer, Chris Bruce and Setonian sports editor Kiley Fischer, clubs can still sign up for a table to be a part of the fun evening. They may also receive a small stipend depending on the amount of tickets they collect.

The Mario Lemieux Foundation collects donations for blood cancers and hospital playrooms for siblings of sick children. Lemieux is an 18-year survivor of Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
