The SummerSounds Concert Series has almost completed yet another successful season. Since its debut in 2000, the Robertshaw Amphitheater in St.Clair Park has been the stage to countless free musical performances.
This season, a total of 13 musical acts were selected to perform on Friday evenings throughout the summer. The final concert, sponsored by Seton Hill University, will take place on August 30, with a performance by local rock band Yarn.
The final concert begins at 7:00 p.m. and concludes by 9:30 p.m. A preshow by Mike Hickey will be performed from 6:15 until 6:45.
Yarn was formed in 2007 and has six members including Blake Christiana (Vocals/Guitar), Trevor MacArthur (Vocals/Guitar), Andrew Hendryx (Mandolin/Harmonica), Rod Hohl (Electric Guitar), Rick Bugel (Bass), and Robert Bonhomme (Drums).
Yarn has already produced seven albums, and their debut album was named no. 70 of AMA’s Top 100 Albums in 2007.
Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets and chairs to relax on the lawn throughout the show as the stadium seating filled quickly by concert regulars.
Admission for the concert is free. In addition, parking is available in various public parking lots and metered spots after 5 p.m. around downtown and the cultural district at no cost.
Various food vendors are set up in the park, and dogs are also welcome to enjoy the show.
Musical tastes of all genres were satisfied with this year’s lineup of artists. Bits of folk to rock, bluegrass to jazz and hints of new age and country pleased attendees of all ages.
