Summer is the time for some fun in the sun, but what about when night comes? What is there to do around the Greensburg area?
Every year beginning in June, Greensburg offers a free concert series every Friday called SummerSounds. Located in downtown Greensburg’s St. Clair Park, people can listen to music outside on the lawn while they dance, eat, or just simply relax.
This year, SummerSounds will be putting on 13 performances, ranging from a wide variety of music genres. SummerSounds will have performances in rock, jazz, folk, and blues music.
Bands that will be featured this year are Nicole Atkins, Gedeon Luke & The People, Cello Fury with Joy Ike, Leroy Justice, The Idol Kings, Hollis Brown, Beau Soleil avec Michael Doucet, The Glenn Miller Orchestra, The Duhks, The Horse Flies, Chris Smither, Birds of Chicago, and Alternate Routes.
SummerSounds, also called Concerts in the Park, started in 2000 when three individuals noticed the lack of entertainment being provided in Greensburg.
Missy Monsour, Steve Gifford and Gene James wanted to be able to showcase local talent with the newly built amphitheater in St. Clair Park. After presenting the idea to the mayor, Concerts in the Park became a hit every summer and has continued to be a success since the start of it all.
The Concerts in the Park will run through August. Showtime is usually at 7:00 p.m. with a pre-show at 6:15 p.m.
