Your guide to purchasing Girl Scout Cookies

There are two great things that come with spring: nicer weather and Girl Scouts cookies. With so many choices of delicious flavors, each running at about $4 a box, how can you decide which ones to buy? Here’s a list of some of the cookies and a review on which ones you might like to purchase.

Samoas/Caramel deLites
This cookie sports a nice layer of toasted coconut and a drizzle of dark chocolate sauce. Inside is a cookie covered in caramel, giving it a nice chewy texture. This treat is great for any coconut-lover who also has a fondness for caramel.

Tagalongs/Peanut Butter Patties
The Tagalong is a crispy wafer that has a chocolate cover on the outside and a peanut butter filling on the inside. This cookie is my personal favorite, and anyone who loves the glorious combination of chocolate and peanut butter will appreciate this dessert.

Trefoils/Shortbread
Trefoils are nice and simple. They’re a shortbread cookie, and that’s about it. While they’re not super interesting like some of the other options, Trefoils are a very light and tasty snack that will please anyone who enjoys the traditional shortbread treat.

Do-si-dos/Peanut Butter Sandwich
Girl Scouts sure do love their peanut butter cookies. This cookie sports no chocolate, unlike it’s Tagalong sibling, but it does have a crunchy oatmeal outside with a creamy peanut butter filling. This is the cookie you want if you’re not a fan of chocolate, but still want some peanut buttery goodness.

Thin Mints
These minty treats consist of a crispy wafer with a chocolatey coating. Thin Mints are also made with natural peppermint oil, giving them their signature flavor. Thin Mints are not for those who dislike peppermint, like myself. But if you do enjoy the taste of Peppermint Patties, a somewhat similar peppermint treat, then this cookie might be something for you to try.

Rah-Rah Raisins
This is the Girl Scouts own take on the classic oatmeal raisin cookie. The Rah-Rah Raisins are oatmeal cookies with plump raisins and Greek yogurt-flavored chunks. The yogurt chunks add a nice flavor to the cookie that regular oatmeal raisin cookies don’t have. If you’re a fan of oatmeal raisin cookies and want a nice change from the ordinary, then these are perfect for you.

Toffee-Tastic
For those of you looking for a gluten-free cookie option, the Toffee-Tastic cookies are right up your alley. These have toffee bits baked right in, so you get a rich, buttery cookie with a handful of toffee goodness. If you’re looking for a healthier cookie for yourself or for your gluten-free friends, give this one a try.

Girl Scouts cookies are something so many of us look forward to every year. While they can be a bit on the expensive side, they are well worth the money. If you’ve never had any of these cookies before, I suggest you go out and buy yourself a box right now. You can find Girl Scouts selling near you easily by going to girlscouts.org and entering your zip code. They also have a mobile app to plug in your zip code! They’ve even started selling cookies online, although it’s still new so you’ll have to check if they’re selling online in your area.
