With fall now in full swing, it is time to prepare yourselves for sweater weather, pumpkin spice everything and most importantly, the scariest movies to watch! There are so many different choices, ranging from the classics to films recently released in theaters. In no particular order, here are just a few options to get your fall started off right!

“The Conjuring” (2013)
This is a chilling movie that opens with the words, “based on true events…” The movie takes place in 1970 in an old farmhouse in Rhode Island, when a family of seven moves in. Upon moving in, they begin noticing some paranormal activity. The family eventually contacts Ed and Lorraine Warren, who are paranormal investigators. The events that take place will have you on the edge of your seat with your stomach turning.

“The Shining” (1980)
A family was sent to an isolated hotel during the winter because the father was the caretaker during the off-season months. During their stay, the son starts having psychic visions that show him the hotel’s past and the tragedies that have taken place. An evil spirit then starts influencing the father into violence. Will anyone make it out alive? You’ll have to watch the movie to find out.

“A Nightmare on Elm Street” (1984)
This classic will keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat. In this movie, teenagers are becoming victims to Freddy Krueger, a “monster” that preys on them in their dreams. The most horrifying part is that even though he visits them in their dreams, they still die in real life due to his visits. Until someone can figure out the secret as to why this is happening, no teenager may be able to survive.

“IT” (2017)
There is an older version, which was a two-part TV series, that was released in 1990, but I want to focus on the most recent one. This movie is based on best-selling author Stephen King’s, book, “IT.” In this movie, there is a clown that preys on the fears of children and teenagers. The only way for the clown to survive is on these fears. A group of children that is being targeted by IT must find a way to face their fears or they will die at the hands of the clown.

“The Exorcist” (1973)
A young girl, Linda Blaire, begins acting strange, so her mom seeks medical help, but they end up reaching a dead end. A priest then steps in and claims that she may be possessed by the devil. If you want to see some wild contortions and a terrifying story, then this movie will be perfect for you!

“The Babadook” (2014)
A children’s book suddenly turns into a terrifying reality when a widow who is mourning suddenly must handle her son’s outbursts and fears about a monster in the house. What started off as a little fear from a book turns into a lurking, sinister presence that the widow notices as well. While this is a horror movie, it also focuses on the relationship between the mother and son, and how they are dealing with their grief. Will they get the happy ending they deserve?
