Nov. 12 Disney Plus was released to the public.

Now what is Disney Plus? Disney Plus is a video streaming service that allows subscribers to watch movies and television shows from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.

“It has not only the newer updated versions of the movies, but also has the originals, which you can’t find too many places anymore,” said Chelsie Auen, a mother of two who subscribes to the Disney Plus streaming service.

Disney Plus has only just started out and 10 million people have already signed up. It includes features like movies, TV shows, originals and much more.

The main subscription costs $6.99 a month or $69.99 for a whole year. There is also a package deal where you can get Disney Plus, Hulu and ESPN for $12.99 a month. Verizon has also sparked up a deal where if you have an unlimited plan, you can get a year of Disney Plus for free and then $6.99 a month once that year ends.

So is Disney Plus worth it?

Some movies it includes are Disney Princess movies (“Mulan,” “Cinderella,” “Tangled,” etc.), all the “Star Wars” movies and all the “Avengers” movies. It also includes live-action movies like “Lady and the Tramp” and “Beauty and the Beast.” It also streams all 30 seasons of “The Simpsons” and features a new original called “Star Wars: The Mandalorian” starring Pedro Pascal.

“It brings back a lot of childhood memories with the movies I used to watch over and over again all day,” Auen said.

Although Disney Plus does seem like an amazing streaming service, it still has its problems like every other streaming service.

“I went to watch “The Mighty Ducks”, but when I opened it, it said ‘Coming Soon. Due to past rights, this title will be available on July 1, 2020.’ I was so mad about that,” said Justin Behr, a person who owns Disney Plus.

“The only issue I’ve had is that it sometimes lags. Otherwise, I love Disney Plus,” Auen said.

Disney Plus is a new streaming service, which means it does have competitors. One of its top competitors is Netflix. But why Netflix?

Disney Plus and Netflix have the same features. When opening Disney Plus, they show previews of new, popular shows and movies like Netflix does at the beginning.

Disney Plus also has a sidebar that includes the ‘Home,’ ‘Search,’ ‘Movies,’ ‘TV Shows,’ etc. that are the same as Netflix.

The only difference between Disney Plus and Netflix is the content they stream.

“Disney Plus is more kid oriented, while Netflix is for a more mature audience with what they stream,” said Riley Strickler, a person who owns both and prefers Netflix.

Disney Plus streams movies and sows created by Disney and Pixar, and even streams movies and shows created by National Geographic. Netflix on the other hand streams all kinds of shows, some being explicit by including drugs and sex, some being made for children.

“I love Disney Plus because I know they can’t get into shows with explicit things and are kid-friendly movies,” Auen said.

With knowing these two streaming services were big competitors, I conducted a poll. I asked people through Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram and even in person what they prefered– Disney Plus or Netflix.

Out of 30 people, nine people prefer Disney Plus over Netflix.

That means 30% of people would rather watch Disney Plus over  Netflix’s streaming service.

“As time goes on, there’s not much to watch on TV so it gets boring. They’re also able to be watched on your computer and phone,” said Giana Barbieri, a student who prefers streaming services over regular cable.
