Frolic funds Animal Friends

Seton Hill University (SHU) students and members of the Greensburg community met together with their enthusiastic dogs on Sullivan Lawn for the ‘4 Legged Frolic’ on Sat., Nov. 5. This event, sponsored by adjunct English professor Katie Monsour’s Senior Integrative Seminar, was an invitation to dog owners to come and walk their dogs around SHU’s campus between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to support The Animals Friend of Westmoreland County.Several representatives from Animal Friends made an appearance with dogs from the shelter that are up for adoption. For some of the dogs, it was their first time interacting in such a large and diverse group setting. The shelter representatives were very impressed by their dogs’ behavior. “They’re being so social with all of the kids and the other dogs. This just proves that they’re ready to be adopted and find a home where they’ll be loved and taken care of.”The Senior Seminar students worked diligently to keep the event running smoothly. Participants who donated money were entered into a drawing for three pet-related baskets There was also a homemade dog treat bake sale. Non-pet owners were still encouraged to make donations and enjoy interacting with the excited animals.

Sophomore Jackie Yanchuck said she “especially enjoyed the selection of homemade treats. They even had some for dogs with allergies. That was a nice touch.”

Volunteers are always welcome at the local shelter in Youngwood, Pa. More information about The Animal Friends of Westmoreland County can be found at their website: http://animalfriendswestmoreland.org/
