Humor, suspense, mystery, mutants, and Tom Cruise will lead moviegoers everywhere into summer with a box-office bang thanks to these upcoming movies. There’s something to please everybody, including import race fans.
In Theaters Now:
Scary Movie 4 (Dimension Films): Ana Faris and Regina Hall are back as Cindy and Brenda in the newest installment of the Scary Movie saga. This time the film takes aim at War of the Worlds, The Grudge, Saw, The Village, and many other movies to hilariously poke fun at them. The result is quirky, sidesplitting humor that’s sure to please Scary Movie fanatics everywhere. This time, the gang battles an alien invasion. Special guests include Dr. Phil, Leslie Neilson, Carmen Electra and rappers, Chingy and Lil John.
In Theaters May 5:
Mission Impossible III (Paramount Pictures): Tom Cruise returns as Special Agent Ethan Hunt, directed by J.J. Abrams, mastermind of the hit shows Lost and Alias. Plot details have not been released, but count on the most impossible mission yet, filled with drama, mystery and hi-tech gadgets.
Ving Rhames, Keri Russell and Lawrence Fishburn are included in the all-star cast. Sorry ladies, Tom won’tbe jumping on any couches in this one.
In Theaters May 19:
The Da Vinci Code (Columbia Pictures): Tom Hanks stars in this mystery, based on the book by Dan Brown and directed by Ron Howard. Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon(Hanks) aids police in deciphering a string of riddles that began with the death of a curator at the Louvre in Paris. Langdon discovers the clues lie within the works of Leonardo Da Vinci, and he has only a short amount of time to solve the puzzles before the truth is lost. This thriller also stars Jean Reno, Audrey Tautou and Ian McKellen.
In Theaters May 26:
X-Men: The Last Stand (20th Century Fox): Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Kelsey Grammar, and Rebecca Romijn (sans Stamos) star in this climax of the X-Men trilogy. A war among the X-men and the Brotherhood is triggered when a cure for mutation is discovered. The groups must chose between keeping their mutated yet powerful form, or becoming human and accepted by society. A warning for all the X-Men fanatics out there: Fox has announced X-Men will only be a trilogy. This is your last chance to see them on the big screen.
In Theaters June 6:
The Omen (20th Century Fox): Of course there has to be a scary movie, they seem to be like an epidemic now. The Omen is based on the original 1976 thriller centered around Armageddon.
Julia Stiles, Liev Schreiber, Mia Farrow, and David Thewlis star in this film based on a young boy named Damien who becomes the Anti-Christ. As a string of terrifying events occur, Damien’s parents realize his potential to destroy Earth. I highly recommend this movie, as the original scared me senseless.
In Theaters June 16:
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (Universal Pictures): Producer Neal H. Mortiz of the blockbuster hits The Fast and the Furious and 2 Fast 2 Furious take us to the world of underground Japanese drift racing. Unfortunately Paul Walker does not return for another dose of speed and adrenaline behind the wheel, but rapper Bow Wow stars in the movie along with Lucas Black, Brian Tee, and Jason Tobin. Sean Boswell (Lucas), is forced to move from America to Japan with his father, and his eyes are opened to a new style of racing that leads to a suspenseful face-off at the end.
