On Tuesday, March 28, 2006, Seton Hill University’s (SHU) National Education Center for Women in Business announced its official transition to SHU’s E-Magnify at This Way Up: Building a World-Class Business in Pittsburgh. The annual conference is the largest women-in-business-focused event in the Western Pennsylvania region.
The center was founded in 1991 and launched a web community, E-Magnify, six years ago. The web community increased the center’s accessibly and audience. The community is listed by Harvard’s Business School as the online arm of the initiative, and women in business would do well to check out the resources offered here.
The web community is a well-spring of information for entrepreneurs and an important part of the services that the center offers.
Entrepreneurs are short on time. They need quick, condensed, meaningful, and cost effective information said Jayne Huston, the director of E-Magnify.
Even before the center adopted the name, E-Magnify was used to refer not only to the web community, but to the center itself.
As Huston put it, (E-Magnify) was superseding the lengthy name of the center.
While the name switch is the most apparent change, the switch is designed to keep the center moving forward with its organization identity, not just to diminish confusion.
The center is focused on women entrepreneurs, but the information found there is fairly gender-blind.
The information isn’tdifferent, but the way men and women go about using it differs.
Women are more likely to form groups to facilitate in business, while men are more hierarchal, Huston said. In addition to the web community, the center reaches out to the SHU population by encouraging students to visit their business library or the office located on the third floor of the Administration Building.
Good business information is just good business information, Huston said.
E-Magnify offers programs suitable for varying levels of business experience. For example, E-Magnify EXPRESS Business training program is designed for experienced entrepreneurs working on expanding their business while E-Magnify Writeidea Business Plan Competition is designed to help entrepreneurs launch into business.
Information about all of E-Magnify’s business programs is available on their Web site, www.e-magnify.com.
