On Saturday September 30, 2006, 45 Seton Hill University (SHU) students visited Washington D.C. Some students were required to go for a class, while others went for a relaxing day on the town.
Students left SHU at 5:00 a.m. on a chartered bus and arrived in Washington at about 9:15 a.m.
Many students went to see the Smithsonian museums, such as the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of Natural History.
Ryan Gephart, a sophomore, said, I liked the Air and Space Museum, especially the World War I and II aircraft(s).
Others went to see the various monuments and memorials around the city, including the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, the World War II Memorial, and Vietnam Veterans Memorial.
There was much more to do in Washington D.C., other than the memorials and monuments. A few students went to many places in the city less-traveled. Some visited Chinatown, the National Museum of Health and Medicine, and the National Book Fair, which was running all day on Saturday.
Rachel Ramsey, a senior, said I have been to D.C. a handful of times and just found out on this trip that there is a Chinatown there.
The National Book Fair featured many events and speakers, as well as a book sale.
I even got to ride the Magic School Bus and talk to Ms. Frizzle herself, Ramsey said.
At the end of the day, the trip-goers met to get back on the bus at the National Museum of Natural History.
Val Morschl, a sophomore, said, I thoroughly enjoyed my day here.
I love D.C., there is so much to do and it is basically all free, said Ramsey.
The students arrived back at SHU at 9:30.
