Stephen Walker is a senior, and was recently named the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 24 – 30.
How did you find out about your WVIAC achievement?
“My friend sent me a text message and told me I won player of the week. I had no clue!”
How did your teammates and coaches react?
“Everybody is happy for me – they all congratulated me. I think my coach is proud one of his players has been able to achieve something like this.”
How do you prepare for a game?
“I always say a prayer before a game. I try to separate myself so I stay very focused. I don’t talk much, don’t listen to music…just stay zoned in. Also, during games after every goal I score, I blow a kiss up to my grandmother.”
What is your most memorable goal/assist?
“I was playing with the U-19 (U.S. Virgin Islands) team, and I scored the game-winning goal against Denmark at home on the finals. That was very memorable.”
Which of your accomplishments are you most proud of?
“Just last month I was asked to play with the U-23 U.S. Virgin Islands Olympic team. I scored a goal, so that was a great honor to me to represent my country.”
Do you expect to do well in the upcoming game (at Walsh University on October 3, 2007)?
“The team we just played (West Virginia Wesleyan College) were favored to win overall, and we beat them. The whole team is going in with confidence, and I think we’ll do fine.”
