Homecoming Weekend is an eventful time for everyone at Seton Hill University (SHU) to come together to celebrate a new school year. One of the many scheduled events to attract those of all ages is the Reeves Memorial Library book sale.
This annual book sale will be held October 5, 6, and 7. On Friday and Saturday, the sale will run from 9 a.m. until 4:50 p.m.
On Sunday, the sale is from 1 p.m. to 10:50 p.m. he books sold are often donations that are not fit to be added to the library collection. There are some duplicates, and others are outdated copies of books, said Kelly Addleman, a Reeves librarian.
“I bought a few outdated psychology books for 10 cents last year. I hope they will help me in the future for research and such,” said Kali Sarver, a sophomore.
“Some of the older books are a little ‘loved,’ but most of the books in the sale are in good shape. We actually have many recently published books as well,” said Addleman.
Some of the books in the sale will be copies of “The Bell Jar” and “The Sound and the Fury.” There will be a variety of books ranging from Harlequin romances to a complete set of the World Book Encyclopedia.
Also, books on family therapy and marriage will be available. Several VHS tapes and vinyl records can be purchased here, as well.
“I filled up a large box with about 20 books during my freshmen year. I used several books for a report and the others are for recreational reading,” said Bruce Kelly, a junior.
“The books are all cheap and hard to find,” said Sarver.
The sale is open to anyone who would like to come – not just SHU students. Some people have been interested and contacting the library since August, said Addleman.
The sale is usually quite successful during Homecoming weekend when several alumni return for the festivities.
“The most popular hours are during Friday and early Saturday morning,” said Addleman.
