Recently Seton Hill University (SHU) started to offer full-tuition scholarships to four incoming freshmen. The full-tuition scholarships, known as “Seton Scholars,” are based on SAT scores, grade point average and extra school activities.
To be noticed as a Seton Scholar and to receive this scholarship, prospective students must stand out in their chosen field before their college careers even begin. Nathan Hough, a current SHU freshman, has done that.
“It was a huge surprise when I found out that I was the scholarship recipient. I new that a large number of students were eligible, so I thought the chance of getting it were slim,” said Hough.
Hough, a theatre business major, from Elizabeth Pennsylvania, first became interested in SHU because of the arts program.
“One thing that attracted me to this school was the emphasis on the arts,” said Hough.
However, Hough said the building of the new SHU theatre in downtown Greensburg is what kept him attracted to SHU.
“What really got my attention was the new Performing Arts Center, which, as a theatre major, will be a great benefit to me,” said Hough.
Though Hough is proud of receiving the Seton Scholars scholarship, he remains humble and credits his success to a supportive family, and former teachers.
“I think that I was chosen for the qualities I learned through my family and my school, specifically the arts programs. (High school) is where I started to appreciate music and theatre, and the faculty really supported and encouraged me, along with my family, to pursue what I’m doing,” Hough said.
Hough plans on continuing his theater career through SHU and to live up to the title as Seton Scholar.
“I’m very proud and grateful for this award. It tells me that [SHU] sees potential in me and I hope to live up to its expectations during my time here,” said Hough.
