With the excitement of Christmas just around the corner and busy people prepping for the holiday, the charity of humanity is not forgotten. For most, the Christmas holiday is more about giving than receiving.
With the events of Operation Christmas Basket, students and faculty of Seton Hill University (SHU) take time to give to charities.
Operation Christmas Basket was held Wednesday and Thursday November 28-29. It consisted of a flea market, silent auction, and bake sale.
Preparations for Operation Christmas Basket began on November 15, when several students gathered to make crafts for the sale, followed by a bake night on November 26. All of the crafts and goodies were displayed on the tables in the Maura hallways and solarium.
“We had Christmas music playing and popcorn popping to bring on Christmas the spirit,” said Cindy Boland, the director of Campus Ministry.
All proceeds benefit the Westmoreland County food bank and Blackburn Center, an organization against domestic and sexual violence.
“It is nice to help out someone else less fortunate,” said Jeannie Supreme, a junior, who attended the craft day.
“We ask students to be ‘elves’ who help us keep organized. Our elves manage the tables so everything goes smoother,” said Boland.
Items displayed and sold at the flee market and silent auction, were donated by faculty, students, and members of the community.
Those who know Operation Christmas Basket is a tradition at SHU donate all year round knowing their donations benefit charities.
