Seton Hill University’s (SHU) Julian Fiorina, a senior, is well known for his accomplishments in the cross country program. Fiorina currently owns the school record for the fastest 8K running time, and in past years, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) has named Fiorina to the All-WVIAC team.
In doing so, Fiorina has helped the SHU cross country program in their transition to Division II athletics. He has also solidified himself as one of the fastest runners ever to come through the cross country program at SHU. What many people might not know, however, is that Fiorina also runs in the SHU track and field program.

“I feel that it’s an interesting opportunity because when I came to SHU, there was no track program,” Fiorina said.
The track team practices regularly, either by running across the campus, or by running the track on the mezzanine level of the McKenna center.
“I run about six or seven miles with the team at each practice,” Fiorina said. Fiorina has also been known to run 17 miles for his own personal benefit. That work ethic and amount of practice has come in handy.
“I would say that our track team is more prepared than in previous years,” said Fiorina. With all the running that the track team does on a regular basis, it’s no wonder that Fiorina is in the best shape of his life. While some say that it’s a good idea to have a big meal before a race, Fiorina says that that isn’t the case with the SHU track program.
“It’s a good idea to have a lot of complex carbohydrates if you’re going to be running in a race in the near future, but we try to eat healthy pretty much all the time,” Fiorina said.
“I try to relax, I try not to be too tense,” Fiorina says. That relaxed attitude has kept Fiorina on the list of top performers in the WVIAC conference.
“We have a lot of depth in almost all of the categories in track and field, so that should help us out a lot,” said Fiorina.
