The Seton Hill University (SHU) Men’s Tennis team may be underrepresented, but according to Ian Love, a senior member of the team, the Men’s Tennis team is one of the more family-like teams at SHU, “I think our team is one of, if not the closest team on campus.”
Love is echoed by his fellow team members as well. Despite what some may say, the Men’s Tennis team sticks together through thick and thin.
“The best part about being on the team is traveling with the guys and going through the ups and downs together,” said Jasmin Sadikovic, a senior, “Everyone on the team stays together and makes the whole experience a lot of fun, no matter what.”
“The best thing about being on the team is my teammates. We all get along very well and we just have a good time together out on the courts,” said Adam Kensey, a sophomore. Though this team may not be high in numbers and may not get as much attention as some other teams, they remain strong by the support of each other.
The team, led by head coach Anthony Grenek, is now beginning practices, as well as getting prepared to travel with the Women’s Tennis team to Hilton Head, North Carolina over spring break for tournaments.
Though both teams are excited for their trip away, their major goals lie in the season ahead. “Since we did not have any recruits for this year and lost two starting seniors, we want to be able to still compete at a high level. Although we want to have a winning season it is going to be tough. We do have returning talent, Dave Cristello and Adam Kensey who started last year as freshmen. Ian Love and I are the returning seniors. Three players, Justin Ryan, Chaz Brinkerhoff, and Ivan Pandulev will compete for the five and six spots in our singles lineup. In all, our goal is to put our best lineup on the court and give every conference and non-conference team our best shot,” said Sadikovic.
As for the seasons to come, “I just want to make sure it keeps running. Before we went DII we made the playoffs three straight years and the girls even won their division two or three times,” said Love.
“We are losing two great seniors, so we are going to have to step it up in the future. If anyone plays tennis then they should possibly join next year,” said Kensey.
