Wake up and smell the coffee

Who can get enough coffee? Prior to coming to college I loved the smell of fresh coffee grounds but hated the tasted of brewed coffee.

As I became more dependent on caffeine to stay awake in classes and at night to complete assignments, I learned to drink coffee. Luckily, for me and other college students who have developed the taste for coffee, a new café has opened its doors in Greensburg.

The Coffee Bean Café and Roastery is located on East Pittsburgh Street, next to Office Max. In addition to an expected coffee menu, it offers a large selection of non-coffee drinks, paninis, sandwiches, and pizza.

I travel past the café twice a day en route to my internship and wanted to try their coffee drinks. As I reviewed the menu, prices were similar to other coffee companies including Panera and Starbucks.

On my first expedition, I ordered a Mocha Frappe, a combination of coffee, chocolate, and milk. Topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, the drink was delicious treat but I am still debating on whether it was worth the $4.12 I forked over to the cashier. It was definitely satisfying but as a college student with an unpaid internship, I do not have the financial resources to purchase specialty coffee drinks on a regular basis.

I would compare The Coffee Bean Café and Roastery to Panera because of its larger and more diverse menu rather than Starbucks which consists primarily of coffee and sweet treats. Free WiFi Internet and flat screen televisions are available to patrons who want to enjoy their coffee and relax in the large dining area.

The Coffee Bean Café and Roastery has two downfalls. The first is the location. It is accessible only when traveling West on Route 30 and if you are in a rush in the morning as I am most days, you would need to ensure extra time to travel around the road barriers. If you are in a hurry, a drive-thru is open. You can only purchase coffee and sweet treats through the window so you will need to go inside to order sandwiches and pizzas.
