The next president will confront some of the greatest challenges of our lifetime. He will have to solve a financial crisis, lead us to energy independence, and win a war on terror.
He will face questions about the environment, global economics, and a nuclear Iran. And he’ll have to face situations and solve problems that we could only imagine, not knowing what the future holds for our great nation. If we want a sure hand in this turbulent time, if we want a servant’s hand, then we should vote for Sen. John McCain.
Sen. McCain has spent a life time in service of his country. As the son and grandson of four star admirals, young McCain learned early the cost of freedom to the American family. Fighting the battles on the high seas of World War II, Korea, and Vietnam, the McCains and their comrades led America in fighting the evils of imperialism, fascism, and communism.

It was this call to service that young John McCain answered by taking up the family business. Graduating from Annapolis, he requested a frontline assignment, and was transferred to the USS Forrestal. While on deck he found himself in the middle of a fire that killed 134 men, and barely escaped with his life when he was hit with some shrapnel in the legs and chest while saving another pilot.
After recovering, he was transferred back to active duty, and was shot down over Hanoi in a bombing mission. He broke both arms and a leg in the crash, had his shoulder crushed, and then was bayoneted by Vietnamese soldiers. Without medical treatment for six weeks, and receiving a torture session every two hours, McCain was finally allowed to leave when the Vietnamese found out who his father was. He refused to leave until everyone that arrived before him left. After five and a half years of torture for serving his country, John McCain and his fellow prisoners were released.
Returning home, he again answered the call to service, spending three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, and at the end of 2010 will have finished his fifth term as Senator for the great state of Arizona. While spending those 26 years in Congress, Sen. McCain was a leading voice in every major policy area, and had a hand in leading America through the last three decades. This kind of experience is hard to find in any one man, and Sen. McCain has that experience.
Sen. McCain will draw on these life and job experiences to make crucial decisions that effect real Americans everyday. Despite being one of the more Senior members of the Senate, John McCain has always advocated what he thought was right for America, no matter what party advocated his view.
Sen. John McCain is a true American hero that will serve our country with honor and service as he has done all his life. When you go to vote this November, don’t vote for a candidate that talks about duty, change, and hope. Vote for a man who has lived a life of duty, made real and lasting change, and will bring not just a hope to America but a belief that whatever comes across his desk, President John McCain will handle it with a steady hand, a compassionate heart, and the strength to see us through.
The past eight years have been pretty bad. Do you really want four more of the same?
Barack Obama has a clear plan to get us out of the mess we seem to be in now, while John McCain only seems to be offering some “tough talk.” John McCain himself, at the second presidential debate challenged America to, “look at his record” as well as that of Sen. Obama’s.
According to Congressional Quarterly, in 2007, John McCain voted in line with the Bush administration 95% of the time. A number that has only risen during the eight years Bush has been in office.
To me, that record, that John McCain seems to be so proudly wanting us to look at, doesn’t scream “maverick” to me. As Joe Biden has been saying for a while: “You can’t be a maverick if all you’ve ever been is a sidekick.”
Meanwhile, Barack Obama has had a plan for the economy from the beginning. First off, Obama wants to cut taxes for 95% of Americans. In fact, under Obama’s plan, the only taxes that would go up are for people who make more than $200,000. It is inevitabl, that the next president, to pay for the government that they run, will have to raise taxes to some part of the population in order to balance the budget, and in terms of who the burden falls on, Barack Obama has the best plan.
The burden should not fall on middle class America, but on people who actually have the money. After all, the least amount of Americans account for the majority of the wealth.
So between the economy, the ongoing war in Iraq, and the many other issues that this country is facing, this has turned out to be the most important election in many years, and for many years to come.
Barack Obama’s message is clear, and his message is change. When I hear McCain speak, it seems to me almost as if he is trying to scare America, is that what you really want?
To spend the next four years in fear? Obama gives America what it needs, a positive message, and a plan for change in the times of uncertainty.
Barack Obama has many other plans to fix the mess of the last eight years, much more than I can fit here in the Setonian. Therefore, I would encourage anyone to also check out www.barackobama.com, where Barack Obama has laid out his plan to move the United States forward, and regain much of what has been lost. I also encourage you all to vote on November 4th, and to vote for Barack Obama.
