Seton Hill University (SHU) freshman, Dianna Griffin, and her suitemates woke up the morning of October 14 to a disturbing realization: there was something terribly wrong with their common room.
“There were a lot of random things in our common area that I had never seen before,” Griffin said. Their lounge had become a storage area for stolen items. They eventually discovered that it was a prank that had been pulled in De Chantal Hall. Items were stolen from a number of unlocked student rooms.
Sophomore Amanda Garlitz was among the victims. She reported that some of the items stolen from her and her roommates were a bike and vacuum cleaner.
According to campus police, the whole ordeal was just a practical joke and although no charges were filed, the accused had to meet with Keisha Jimmerson, the assistant director of residence life, because of the inconvenience it caused everyone. Jimmerson had no comment to make.
Two days after the incident, the De Chantal resident assistants held floor meetings in order to discuss what had happened and remind students to use safety precautions such as locking their doors. Residents and campus police confirm that all the items stolen was returned to their original owners.
“Needless to say, we lock our door every night now,” Dianna said.
