Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest secular service organization with over 44,500 clubs and more than 1.4 million members in 201 countries around the world. Melvin Jones, a Chicago businessman, founded it in the United States in 1917. At the local, zone, region, district, and international level, Lions members exemplify their motto “We Serve.”

Lions are passionate about developing effective leadership skills in their members and have an extensive leadership development program including an online Lions Learning Center and several leadership institutes.

Amanda Clontz, the president of Lions Club at Seton Hill University (SHU), said, “I found this club because my mom is a member of Lions Clubs International. So under her influence, I wanted to bring community service into our school.”

The Lion Club at SHU was established at the beginning of the 2008 fall semester. So far, the club members are dedicated to local activity for a worldwide community service purpose. Last Christmas, the club collected glasses for amblyopic children.

The Lions Club International requires $35 for membership. Since the campus club is supported by SHU, both students, faculty, and alumni can join the club by contributing $20.

“We hope more people can get to know this club and join us,” said Melissa Kaufold, a member of Lions Club.

Zach Delo, a freshman, said, “I think the Lions Club is a very caring community service. I’m definitely anticipating to see more Lions in campus.”
