Upon walking into The Chocolate Shoppe, located at 118 N. Pennsylvania Ave. in downtown Greensburg, one is immediately greeted by the cheery canary yellow walls and mouth-watering photographs of candy displayed like works of pop art.

At first glance, the boutique-like environment that the charming shoppe emits may suggest a high price tag, but the candy and other more eccentric treats offered are quite affordable.

The Chocolate Shoppe has a wide selection of classic candy mainstays like chocolate covered pretzels and fruits, truffles and solid chocolate pieces in almost every shape imaginable.

However, more daring delicacies include chocolate covered bacon, pickles and jalapeños.

During my visit, I bought a sampling of the chocolate covered bacon, pickles, pretzels, truffles and a chocolate covered apple and my bill was under $5.

Much to my surprise, the chocolate covered bacon was my favorite of the tasty treats I sampled. The bacon is cooked to crunchy perfection and is a nice savory contrast to the smooth, sweet milk chocolate.

The chocolate covered pickles were a sweet, yet zingy success. For those who like it hot, the chocolate covered jalapeños are also delicious, though should probably be experienced with a cup of the gourmet cacao coffee. Coincidentally the coffee can be purchased by the bag in store ready at hand.

The more traditional candy is also expertly crafted and tickles the taste buds. The truffles have a light dusting of cocoa powder which goes nicely with the near-viscous chocolate center and the chocolate covered apple was not as difficult to bite into as expected.

The workers at The Chocolate Shoppe are also very friendly. I was greeted with a smile and the woman at the register gladly helped me choose from some of the more popular choices among the regular patrons.

With its bright, cheery environment, great food, low prices, friendly staff and a convenient location one street up the road from the Seton Hill University Performing Arts Center (SHUPAC), The Chocolate Shoppe is quickly becoming a favorite snack destination of the students.

Seton Hill University (SHU) students can also enjoy whatever treats will please their palettes at an even lower price than the rest of the clientele as a SHU student discount is offered.
