The American Coffee Shop, located at 112 North Main Street in downtown Greensburg, is a place to make one ask how Greensburg survived in the years before March 2006, when this coffee shop came into being.

Upon entering, one feels relaxed and inspired by the hard wood floors, sweet scent of coffee and the colonial American atmosphere. There is plenty of space for everyone to sit and be comfortable.

For those who love the outdoors, outside seating is available during warm summer months. In the winter, the fireplace beckons.

The American Coffee Shop is a calming place where customers can unwind from the day a place where students can study for the major test coming up. Wi-Fi is also available for all students with iPads and Macbooks.

Besides the ambiance of the café, the best part is the food, which is perfectly suited for the college student’s diet. Entrées include soups, salads, sandwiches and sweets. Everything on the menu is homemade and sounds delicious, but there are a few dishes that stand out.

The American Hero sandwich and breakfast croissant are best sellers. Among the sixty different kinds of coffee, café mocha and caramel macchiato are the top rated. For those who need to wake up, a coffee called “Buzz” is made just for you. It contains an extra amount of caffeine to really help you get going for those morning classes.

Mary Lynn, the enthusiastic owner of the American Coffee Shop, remembers many regulars and their orders by heart. People come from the courthouse as well as the neighboring businesses, eager for their daily coffee, snack or lunch. Seton Hill University (SHU) students get a discount of up to twenty percent, which is an incentive to go visit the café.

Lynn enthuses, “We have the best coffee in town by the cup and by the pound!” SHU student, Christine says, “It’s the best coffee that I’ve had in the United States!” This is a well-deserved compliment for a growing business. Students are encouraged to stop by, get something to eat and study.

The café is open Monday and Wednesday from seven a.m. until seven p.m. in an effort to provide more hours for studying students. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, the hours are 7 a.m. until 4 p.m. On Saturdays, the café is open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. On Sundays, the shop is closed to allow the hardworking employees a break.

Having been to The American Coffee Shop, I can say that I will be a returning regular. I believe it is everything a student could hope for in terms of location, food and necessary amenities such as a comfy chair and Wi-Fi.
