“It was much appreciated that faculty and parents attended to support the students,” said associate English professor and chapter advisor Christine Cusick.
The ceremony included a short history of the Sigma Tau Delta and excerpts from works by Henry David Thoreau, William Shakespeare and Emily Dickinson.
“It was a great honor to be inducted to a honors society that is international. There is a Junior National Honor Society and National Honor Society, but to be inducted into something international is really exciting,” said vice president Alexi Swank, a junior.
The society originated at Dakota Wesleyan University in 1924. Today, there are 700 active worldwide chapters.
“I am really honored and grateful to Dr. Cusick for helping make this opportunity a reality,” said senior Josie Rush.
Undergraduate inductees must have completed three semesters, maintained a B average, taken at least two English courses and be in the top 35 percent of their class.
Sigma Tau Delta’s appearance on campus will be met with partnered activities with the English Club as many of the members of Sigma Tau Delta are active members of the club as well.
