SHU students take a bite of “The Big Apple”

With the New York City skyline looming in the distance, a busload of Seton Hill University (SHU) students, family, and friends, waited anxiously as they got their first taste of life in and around the city’s traffic.
This was just the beginning of a busy weekend filled with the constant threat of rain, many things to do, and, for some people, sleep deprivation. When the bus finally got to the hotel, many trip-goers dropped their bags and ventured forth to get their first taste of The Big Apple.
For most, the trip to New York City was a good reason to get off the Hill and have some fun. For others, the trip was just another visit to a familiar place.
I wanted to go to get away from campus and because I wanted to visit my home again, said Danielle Meyer, a sophomore, who was born a half-hour from Manhattan.
Still, there were new experiences to be had by all.
Although Ive been to NYC a bajillion times, Ive never actually slept overnight. It’s one thing to visit the city for the day and then go home, but it’s another thing to wake up to those beeping buses and cars and to know that youll be having a good day, Meyer said.
For some people, the trip to New York City was an entirely new experience.
I don’tknow how to put it into words, when I saw all the tall buildings and then I walked into Times Square, it was very overwhelming, said Elyse Schneider, a sophomore, after returning back to SHU.
The trip was filled with seeing some of the most popular sights of New York, such as going to the top of the Empire State Building, seeing all the lights of Times Square and enjoying a Broadway show.
Though rain was in the forecast all weekend, aside from some clouds and a few moments of drizzle, the weather was warm and enjoyable.
The hotel was located just off of Times Square, and was nice, aside from the hard beds, a complaint of many of the trip-goers.
After returning back to the Hill, many people missed New York City already.
I definitely have a longing to go back, Schneider said.
