As the semester comes to a close there has been anything but leisure for many graduating seniors here at Seton Hill University (SHU). Along with each major are many different requirements that students must complete as the deadlines draw near for graduation on Saturday, May 12, 2007.
Senior Melinda Leslie, a graphic design major with a studio minor is now completing all of her assigned courses including painting and metalsmithing. The graphic design major, for a bachelor of fine arts degree, requires a minimum of 82 credits along with the core curriculum that SHU requires. Similar to an internship, graphic design majors are required to do an apprenticeship for three to six credits.

Senior Melinda Leslie, a graphic design major with a studio minor is now completing all of her assigned courses including painting and metalsmithing. The graphic design major, for a bachelor of fine arts degree, requires a minimum of 82 credits along with the core curriculum that SHU requires. Similar to an internship, graphic design majors are required to do an apprenticeship for three to six credits.
Furthermore, in order to graduate Leslie is required to present her work in a group senior art show titled �this is art� which was presented April 25-28 in the Harlan Gallery.
�From completing the requirements to graduate I have learned general skills as far as the graphic design field which have been worthwhile, and as I go on from here I will continue to learn the new techniques and programs as I go on,� said Leslie.
Forensic science major Jessica Ludovici is currently placing the final touches on her required work before graduation. Forensic science majors at SHU are required to present their portfolios and reflection papers to the selected faculty.
The graduating seniors of this major must complete 76 required credits as well as the SHU core curriculum requirements in order to receive their bachelor of science degrees. This includes the choice of researching or an internship, which Ludovici completed last semester.
In March, Ludovici presented her research to the American Chemistry Society in Chicago which is another requirement to graduate with this major.
�The requirements and all of the deadlines have been frustrating at times, but I think it will pay off when I go to find a job,� said Ludovici.
Stephanie Kattera, a music education major is finishing up her 107 required credits along with the core curriculum. When she graduates she will receive a Bachelor of Music degree, however this hasn’tbeen a quick and easy process.
She has recently done her senior recital, which was a lengthy process in itself. It is required that a student preparing to do a recital pass a recital test proving to the faculty that they are prepared to perform.
Along with this she is bringing her voice jury and student teaching to a close before the graduation deadline comes.
�From all of the requirements I have fulfilled I hope to gain discipline, structure, and preparation for future tasks when given to me,� said Kattera.
