Over the weekend of Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, hundreds of Seton Hill University students, alumni, and their families gathered to celebrate the university’s annual homecoming weekend. Homecoming “gives alumni the opportunity to see what their community has been up to as well as what the current students are involved in,” said Logan Hayden, a 2022 Seton Hill graduate.

Molly Strong, a sophomore art education major at SHU, also believes that homecoming events celebrate student and university accomplishments.

I think it is an amazing opportunity to support the school community, make connections, and promote pride in students for all that they bring to Seton Hill,” wrote Strong.

“Homecoming is where everyone puts aside homework and their busy lives to come together to enjoy each other’s company,” wrote Amanda Filotei, a senior elementary education major at SHU.

A favorite homecoming event among students was the Official Homecoming Pregame Tailgate held on Saturday.

“I loved seeing everyone on the homecoming court as well as seeing so many families of Seton Hill students. It was such a great way to bring Seton Hill together, while promoting various clubs and activities,” wrote Strong.

According to Filotei, “The pregame party had a ton of activities for all ages to participate in as well as food, drinks, Seton Hill merchandise, and raffle baskets.”

Filotei and Strong represented the SHU Education club at the tailgating event.

“This was my first time doing the tailgate, so I did not know what to expect,” wrote Filotei. “In general it was a blast. The music and crowds of people made it all worth the while. My table specifically had coloring sheets, as well as temporary tattoos.”

“We even met some alumni who were previous Education Club Board members, which was such an awesome experience,” wrote Strong.

Filotei also enjoyed the homecoming football game itself.

“The football game itself is so exciting because alumni and their families come from all over to watch their team play,” Filotei wrote. “I love being able to see students I used to be In class with, as well as have my parents come up and watch the game with me. My dad, from a young age, got me into football, so watching Seton Hill games with him makes me feel like I am at home.”

Other favorite events among participants include Bingo and fireworks.

“My favorite event on campus has always been Bingo,” said Hayden. “However, I also enjoyed watching the fireworks every Homecoming Weekend.”

“What I miss most about Seton Hill is the friends and community,” said Hayden. “During my time at Seton Hill, I felt the ‘Home on the Hill’ experience and nothing can replace it.”
