Love Song. The piece with the catchy piano innuendoes and bohemian rhythmic styles of an artist on the rise. The song that we feel in love with, despite Sara Bareilles lyrics. For someone that didn’t write us a love song, it sure made its audience fall in love!
Sara Bareilles released her album “Little Voice” in late 2007. Filled with a unique blend of rhythms and melodies, one is sure to find themselves humming her tunes.
With a style that ranges in comparison to Bob Marley and Jason Mraz, her lyrics reveal both her interpersonal and emotional side.
Bareilles writes in the journal on her website, “I’ve been writing songs for as long as I can remember. Some of them make me happy and some of them are shit, but all of them come because I can’t imagine what else to do with my head and the things that are in it besides write songs. Songs, and some pretty bad poetry. But mostly just songs.”
Using relationships as a center focus, Bareilles blends naturalism and realism into her words. She doesn’t hint around at what she is trying to say. If she is stressing over the haunted memory of a past fling, she elicits her feelings into a blend of minor notes and sharp crescendos. If she is loving life, we hear the major cords combined with an upbeat, foot tapping sensation.
“Come Round Soon” has a darker blend to its sound as well as its lyrical composition. There is a constant sharp minor note that symbolizes her out of sync life and the missing note to her world. There is a repetitive reference to a missing entity in her life, and she doesn’t try to cover up her heart. Instead, she metaphorically reveals it with a stormy night sky and an absence of angels.
If you are in the mood for a down to earth artist compiled with a touch of bohemian poetry, Sara Bareilles is your girl. If her voice doesn’t capture your heart, her piano skills defiantly will. Put the two together and you’ll fall in love (even if she refuses to admit it).
