Greensburg, the small city that could. During the weekday, the city sees its share of college students, workers, police, pedestrians, and more. In the evenings, Greensburg closes down its small specialty shops, restaurants, and other nine to five businesses and opens its night life up. There are many bars to choose from, and being from the area, I have visited quite a few. As a disclaimer, I do not promote drinking and driving, nor underage drinking.

Starting on the main drag, Main Street, there is Callahan’s Pub. Callahan’s is a small establishment with a large following. The pub serves draft and bottled beers, as well as a variety of mixed drinks. The music flows as patrons sip on their favorite drinks.
Continuing on down the street is Tom’s bar. Toms is notorious for its eccentric crowd. They have a pool table and dart board, which are both fun. If one gets the munchies, Toms offers great food, but only until ten o’clock. The main bartender is Vonnie, who comes off as a rough-neck, but is the nicest person one will ever meet. If asked, she will tell you the history of the bar as well as stories from patrons past and present; mention my name and she even has a story about me. Tom’s serves only domestic beers in bottles on tap, and mixed drinks are available too. It is mainly a hard liquor bar though.
Beside Tom’s is the Headkeeper. The Headkeeper is a great place, a little on the pricy side, but offers over 600 beers. Their specialty are microbrews. There is a huge cooler upon walking in, filled with beer. With names like Magic Hat and Sunshine Wit, one cannot go wrong. Beware though, many microbrews carry a high alcohol content. Their food selection is also delectable.
Pulling off the main drag, there is a place off of Route 119 called the Parkwood Inn. The Parkwood Inn is a restaurant and bar. The bar carries all domestics in bottles and tap. It’s a nice place to enjoy good conversation and listen to mixed tunes on their Internet jukebox. During the summer, the bar has an outside deck. The deck offers a great scenic view of Routes 119 and 30.
Traveling back into the city, across the street from the courthouse, on Otterman Street, is Mr. Toads. Most college students recognize the name. It is notorious. The bar offers many bars on draft and in bottles. Mixed drinks are also available. Mr. Toads carries bottom and top shelf liquors. The pub plays great songs as large crowds populate it more each year. They have a ground floor and bottom level floor. Most people who know the place call the bottom level the “dungeon”. It gets its nick name from its dim lighted, dark furniture garnishing atmosphere.
Scooby’s Pub, located in Greensburg, on New Alexandria Road, is another great establishment to visit. They always have drink specials and the owner of the bar plays awesome music all evening. Scooby’s Pub has theme nights. Check out their MySpace site or just stop in for a quick drink. It’s worth trying.
As far as clubs go, The Great Escape, on Pittsburgh Street and Clearwaters on Route 30 beside the Wal Mart shopping plaza, are great stops for dancing and chilling in the “club” scene.
While enjoying Greensburg’s night life, the best way to see most bars is to take a walk or drive, with a designated driver, and grab yourself a cold brew or tasty mixed drink. See what Greensburg has to offer you.
