The Respect Life Club is sponsoring a Celebrate Life! Week. From April 4 to April 8, each day will be dedicated to raising awareness of a different issue. April 4 is “Anti-Abuse,” April 5 “Capital Punishment,” April 6 “Anti-Abortion” and April 7 “Euthanasia Awareness.” The week ends April 9 with “Celebrating Life Around the World.” Cookies and carnations will be sold throughout the week to raise money for the Lifeway Pregnancy Center, aiding them in promoting the importance of life.
Seton Hill University’s Feminist Collective teamed up with the Blackburn Center to host “Walk a Mile In Her Shoes.” The event was held April 2 at Lynch Field in Greensburg to help raise awareness about domestic and sexual abuse of women.
Over 300 people participated by walking in women’s shoes, typically high heels, for a mile. This represents the idea that one cannot understand what another person has been through until they have walked a mile in the other person’s shoes.
2011 marks the tenth anniversary of the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes Organization and the first year Greensburg hosted it. The community of Greensburg hopes to hold the event annually.
