Women’s volleyball coach Rick Hall is ready for a new season. Coming off an 8-6 season, the Griffins could see improvement, but they also have a lot to live up to.
With the exception of freshmen additions, Griffins volleyball fans can expect to see all but two members of last year’s squad back for another round.
Although the team has plenty of fresh faces, the youth of the team does not scare Hall. In fact, the addition of seven freshmen has given the roster a boost to 15—a number Hall sees working to the team’s advantage.
“It will change the team dynamics…giving us more options with 15 capable players of similar abilities,” Hall said.
Those similar abilities should work towards the team’s advantage. In a poll by the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC), Seton Hill ranked seventh of fifteen.
Instead of looking for one or two standouts this season, Hall said to watch out for the entire team.
“Our team mantra is to win, have fun and be adaptable. We believe in a team concept and with that, we will win and lose as a team,” said Hall.
Hall is also looking forward to the competition the WVIAC brings. “We are looking forward to competing with each and every opponent on our schedule.
The more chances you have to play different competition, the better player/team you become.”
Of their new season, Hall said the team was “cautiously optimistic about our future, and we believe that we will continue to learn and make great strides towards our goals.”
The Griffins will only host seven matches this season, and Hall asks for the fans’ support.
“We run a competition during our games for student athletes to win t-shirts, pizza and gift cards. So come out and support your Lady Griffins volleyball team.”
