Every year, my closest family and I congregate at the classiest establishment this side of Pennsylvania for a Christmas feast. That’s right: Denny’s chain restaurant stays open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. My family becomes a large group of obnoxious, loud-mouthed, salivating turkey-seekers every December 25. We storm the grounds of Denny’s family restaurant, leaving a hefty tip to atone for our holiday recklessness.
Going out to eat on Christmas day has become tradition for my family, one born out of the horror of washing dishes and potentially burning my grandmother’s house down with over cooked ham. Christmas has shifted from an old fashioned holiday to one tailored for the modern family. Whether it’s going out to eat, Skyping your parents from a different state or having multiple holiday celebrations in an effort to see more family and friends, the holidays are changing. Appreciate tradition, but be sure to embrace new ways of celebrating.
