The Seton Hill University (SHU) women’s basketball team started off their season at an opening tournament at Bluefield College, where they defeated Montreat College 78-50, but lost to Bluefield with a close score of 75-74. Since then, it has been up and down for the Lady Griffins. After losing their home opener to Wheeling Jesuit, 64-58, they went on to win two more games in a tournament at LaRoche College with over 15 point leads.
The coaches are expecting big things from the team this year. Tim Creamer, assistant coach of the Lady Griffins, said, Theyre more focused, more determined to win and to change the way Seton Hill women’s basketball has been over the last five to ten years. His beliefs are shared with the rest of the team, coaches and players alike.
Head Coach Scott Breegle said, Were looking very much to be better than what we were in the last couple years.
I feel as though the team is one of the best weve had since Ive been here, said Kaleeda Jenkins, junior. We all worked hard in pre-season and are tired of losing. Jenkins described her excitement to play for the Lady Griffins this season, believing that the rough games the team has endured are only learning experiences that will help the team work harder in future games. My teammates and myself are ready to show the school, as well as our coaches, what we are capable of, Jenkins said.
