Seton Hill University will host guest speaker Peggy Outon tomorrow at 6 p.m. in Admin 405 in honor of Women’s History Month.

Outon is the founding executive director of the Bayer Center for Nonprofit Management at Robert Morris University. She was also named to the national Nonprofit Times Top 50 for Power and Influence. Outon’s presentation will be centered on the 74% Project, which discusses the gender pay gap and obtaining wage equality.

“Ms. Outon was selected for her expertise not only because of her outstanding career, positioning her as an excellent example of female leadership in the nonprofit world, but also because of her research agenda,” said Jess Mann, associate dean for student engagement.

For the first time, SHU created a Women’s History Month Committee to develop a program including Outon’s presentation. Along with Mann, members of the committee include Debra Mason, Edith Cook, Susan Eichenberger, Elise Michaux and David Von Schlichten.

“We have an excellent speaker who will be an inspiration and role model for us all,” said Von Schlichten, who serves as the coordinator of the Gender and Women’s Studies Program at SHU. “This event is an opportunity to honor the great contributions women have made over and over throughout history, often receiving little or no credit in the process.”

Women’s History Month is celebrated every March to celebrate women’s role in American history. Additionally, International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 each year.

“I would encourage students to attend not only because Peggy is a dynamic speaker, but also because the information is timely and important,” Mann said. “Students need to educate themselves on current social, political and economic issues in order to be active and engaged citizens. Free seminars by leaders in the field, such as this event with Ms. Outon, are an excellent opportunity to do so.”
