Crystal hosts star-studded night at the Academy

Book your hair appointments, pull out those old prom dresses and practice your best princess waves because it’s time for yet another date with Oscar.

The Martin Scorsese 3D film “Hugo” landed 11 nominations including Best Picture, Cinematography and Art Direction.  Close behind with 10 nominations is black-and-white success, “The Artist.”

While some of the year’s top films made it to the favorites lists, others were brutally snubbed. Among the victims are Leonardo DiCaprio, Ryan Gosling and Michael Fassbender.

When it comes to the professionals who greatly benefited from this year’s film season, “Mike & Molly” co-star Melissa McCarthy had a career booster in her performance in “Bridesmaids.” Talents from Octavia Spencer and Rooney Mara are ones to look out for after their performances in “The Help” and “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” respectively, earning them nominations.

Meryl Streep, George Clooney and music genius John Williams aren’t new to hearing their names called and standing humbly before their audience. For Streep’s performance in “The Iron Lady,” she gained many nominations, including Actress in a Leading Role. For “The Descendants,” Clooney earned a nomination for Actor in a Leading Role, among others. And it goes without saying that John Williams gained nominations for “The Adventures Of Tin-Tin” and “War Horse.”

Returning for the 11th time to host the magical night is comedy genius Billy Crystal. Taking home an Oscar is the ultimate honor for a piece of work well done.  Tune in to the star-studded night to be a part of the magic of the film industry’s biggest night.
