Fall athletics update: Seton Hill Griffins embrace opening seasons

The women and men’s cross country team finished second at Seton Hill University’s (SHU) 11th  annual Griffin Classic and third at the Kutztown Invitational Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) preview meet. Leading the women in both meets was Jeannie Bujdos who placed second and third overall. For the men, Santo Bell was sixth overall and reached a personal best of 27:23 in the Kutztown Invitational.

The women’s field hockey team is 1-3 overall with a recent loss to Millersville. However, the girls defeated powerhouse Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP), who is ranked 6, 3-0 making them 1-1 in the PSAC, thus far.

Football suffered a loss to East Stroudsburg at the home opener 7-70 on Saturday. Prior to that defeat, the men put on a rally during their first game in the second half of the Fairmont State game and came back from 10-37 deficit at halftime to end the game 29-37.

The women’s golf team returns from their first invitation in Erie placing fourth against Gammon, Mercyhurst and WV Wesleyan. Ashley Ward led the Griffins tying for 14th place.

The women’s soccer team stands 2-2 overall and in the PSAC. They lost to Clarion and IUP, ranked 14th and 8th respectively, and won against Bloomsburg and Lock Haven, ranked 10th and 11th respectively.

The men’s soccer team is undefeated in the conference, 2-0, and is 3-1 overall.

The women’s volleyball team is currently at 6-2 coming back from their Florida trip at the Lynn University Tournament.
