The Keynote Cafe is the most popular place to visit even though it is cold and snowing outside. There are also events on campus filled with entertainment to keep you on the hill. The big event for Seton Hill for February is the performance of Sweet Charity. So get some friends, bundle up and go have a great time watching local live entertainment.
The Keynote Café was founded and operated by Jill Sorrels. The venue is used as a performance venue and art gallery. The Keynote Café is located at 227 South 4th Street Jeannette, Pa. 15644 and the phone number is 412-638-5263. On Thursday Feb. 25, there is going to be an open mic night. It is five dollars at the door and the price of admission includes snacks and soda. On Friday Feb. 26, 2016 there is an under 21 acoustic showcase, ten dollars at the door includes snacks and soda. Jill Sorrels said that “The Keynote Cafe was opened on the premise that people would enjoy live music in a small, intimate environment.” On why she chose Jeannette for the location Sorrels said “Jeannette is my hometown and had buildings available for a low rent at the time. It was a good place to experiment.”
On Saturday Feb. 27, 2016, The Keynote is hosting an art opening which is also ten dollars at the door which includes snacks and soda. On Thursday March 3, 2016 there will be another open mic night tickets are five dollars at the door. On Saturday March 12, 2016 there will be an under 21 night and tickets are ten dollars at the door.
On campus you can catch Sweet Charity down at the Performing Arts Center starting on Feb. 19 until Feb. 27. Sweet Charity is a musical about Charity Hope Valentine who is a dance hall hostess with a big heart looking for a man. The musical takes place in the 1960’s New York City. Classic songs featured in the musical include “Big Spender,” “If My Friends Could See Me Now,” and “I’m a Brass Band.” Tickets are $5 for students. The show runs from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Feb. 19, 20, 25, 26 and 27. The show runs from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m on Feb. 21 and 27. On March 11 at The Performing Arts Center at 7:30pm there is a piano ensemble recital.
