Hank Phillippi Ryan will be coming to Seton Hill University on June 24. Ryan, an Emmy-winning journalist, is currently the on-air investigative reporter for Boston’s WHDH-TV. She has won numerous awards for her work as a journalist and for the many novels she has published.

Ryan will be giving a lecture at the SHU Performing Arts Center (PAC) in the Carol Reichgut Concert Hall at 7 p.m. The talk is free and open to the public, but registration is required, which can be found on the box office website.

“Ryan is the author of nine thrillers, which is a hot genre of popular fiction right now,” said Lee McClain, professor of English for the Writing Popular Fiction (WPF) program at SHU. “She’s also an expert marketer, which is such an important skill for upcoming authors to learn. We’re thrilled she’s coming and can’t wait to learn from her.”

Her latest novel, “Say No More,” is an Agatha Best Novel and Mary Higgins Clark award nominee, as well as The Library Journal’s best thriller of 2016. Including this novel, Ryan has published nine bestselling mystery novels, and has won many awards including five Agatha’s, two Anthony’s, two Macavity’s, the Daphne and the Mary Higgins Clark award.

Ryan helped to found the Mystery Writers of America University, a writing seminar designed to teach participants the essential skills needed to write a novel. She was also the 2012-2013 president of the Sisters in Crime, an organization to promote the ongoing advancement, recognition and professional development of women crime writers.

“The public can look forward to a polished and entertaining presentation about writing and publishing, with stories from her days as an investigative reporter as well,” said McClain. “There’s a reception and book signing afterwards, so people will have the chance to meet Hank in person.”

The Westmoreland Library Network is sponsoring the event. The WLN advocates for 24 member public libraries in Westmoreland County for the purpose of obtaining funding for public library services. For more information on the event, contact Nicole Peeler, associate professor of English and program director for WPF.

WPF will also be hosting a “mega book-signing” event on June 23 at the PAC. The signing will feature many Seton Hill faculty and alumni.
