Updates on Field House Construction

By ISABEL GERHEIM

According to Jennifer Reeger, associate vice president for communications and media relations for Seton Hill, construction on the new sports complex is moving forward and on schedule following significant progress over the summer.

Summer construction crews completed site clearing and excavation, laid concrete foundations, installed necessary utility lines, awarded major subcontracts for the upcoming building phase, and coordinated the delivery and assembly of structural steel.

Despite heavy rainfall over the summer, the project timeline remains intact. Visible progress will pick up soon, with assembly of the building’s structural steel framework set to begin in early November 2026. The building enclosure and roofing are slated for completion through the spring and summer of 2027, followed by interior walls and decorative finishes in the summer and fall of 2027. Reeger shared that construction is scheduled to finish by the end of 2027, with the facility opening for occupancy in January 2028.

Funding for the sports complex comes from benefactor donations and a bond issue financing package, according to Reeger.

Once open, the complex will house office space and locker rooms for baseball, softball, men’s and women’s lacrosse, men’s and women’s cross country, track and field and wrestling. Key athletic amenities include a turf field, batting cages, an indoor practice track, a wrestling practice room and a dedicated recruiting and media room.

The facility will not require dedicated staff for the building’s upkeep. Instead, oversight will fall under existing athletics leadership alongside the McKenna Center, outdoor fields and the current fieldhouse.

“The new facility will also support intramural programs and will expand overall health and wellness initiatives at Seton Hill that will benefit all students,” Reeger said in an email.
