Housing at Seton Hill University (SHU) can be frustrating at times; being a small school with many people it tends to get a little crowded. This year SHU put students in rooms off campus at the Marriott hotel.

There were too many students who needed housing to fit them all in the buildings supplied.

“We are looking for several options for next year, assuming we won’t have enough room. The options are the Marriott, other hotels, and off-campus housing locations,” said Robin Anke, dean of residence life.

According to Robin, the only thing you have to do to be guaranteed a room is “to go through the room selection process like everyone else.”

“I never heard about this rumor but I can say I’m glad it’s not true. I don’t have the option to commute, so living on campus is my only chance to stay at Seton Hill,” said Juliana Cox, a sophomore resident.

A new dorm hall is in the plans, unfortunately not for the fall semester of 2009. Another option being discussed is the tearing down of Havey Hall. The plan is to knock down Havey and replace it with a science building.

“The selection process was a bit annoying last year but well worth it. If that’s all you have to do to be guaranteed housing, then there really is nothing to worry about,” said Dan Grosso, a sophomore.

According to Robin, before the new hall is built, students will be asked what kind of building they want. It will be their choice, suit style, singles, whatever it may be.
